Why here

Apricots in brandy

Boerenmeisjes are apricots steeped in brandy. They belong to the same Dutch tradition as boerenjongens, which are made with raisins: a jar on the table at a birthday or holiday, with a spoon alongside.

According to the producer, JanBax flavours its own with rock sugar, caramel and cinnamon. At nine percent, this is the lightest one on our shelf.

It is a small jar of twenty-eight centilitres. That also makes it a popular little gift.

Boerenjongens of boerenmeisjes?

The difference is in the fruit. Boerenjongens are raisins on brandy, Boerenmeisjes apricots. Otherwise the idea is the same: fruit that has steeped in the spirit, served with the liquid.
