Why here

A vodka that does not come from grain

By far most vodka is distilled from grain or potatoes. So That Be does it differently: the brand distils from palm sap, the liquid tapped from the palm tree. According to the brand itself, it is the only spirit based on palm wine.

We put it on the shelf because it adds something that is not otherwise there. If you want to know how it compares to the vodka you are used to, call 0570 541 278.

About the brand

Distilling from the palm tree

  • So That Be in brief
  • Palm sapThe raw material from which the whole range is distilled.
  • 40%The strength of the bottles in the range.
  • SevenThe number of distillations the brand states for the Premium.
  • NetherlandsThe country of origin on the label of this bottle.

So That Be does not make a spirit from grain, potato or molasses, but from palm sap: the liquid tapped from the palm tree, which in large parts of West Africa is the basis of palm wine. The brand calls itself the only spirit made on that basis.

The brand's range holds more bottles under the same name, all made from palm sap and all at 40 percent: besides the vodka, a gin and two rums, among others. We have one of them in the shop.

Little else is firmly documented about the company behind the brand. What is stated above comes from the brand itself and from the product data; what we could not verify, we have left out.

No grain, no potato, but the sap of the palm tree.
