A glass you do not just put down
The La Corne glass has the shape of a horn. It tapers to a point at the bottom and therefore cannot stand on the table. A holder goes with it, and it is included with this item.
That makes it more of a gift than an ordinary beer glass. You buy the glass and stand here as one item; you do not need to look for them separately.
There are not many in stock. Call 0570 541 278 if you need several, and we will check what we have and what can be ordered in addition.
The glass we have in stock
A horn, a holder and a lawsuit
- The glass in brief
- HoornThe shape the beer takes its name from.
- HolderThe glass comes in a holder.
- 1636The year the name refers to.
- 2012The lawsuit over the shape of this glass.
La Corne du Bois des Pendus is served in a horn-shaped glass that sits in a wooden stand. That shape is not decoration: the glass has no flat base and cannot stand without a stand.
The name refers to a place in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. In February 1636, during the Thirty Years’ War, about a hundred villagers were hanged there, in a horn-shaped part of the Forest of Anlier. The beer is brewed on commission for Brasserie d’Ebly.
In 2012 the Bosteels brewery went to court, because in its view the glass looked too much like that of Pauwel Kwak. In December of that year the Antwerp commercial court ruled that confusion was not at issue and that the glass could stay as it is.
The product information we receive from the supplier says nothing about height, weight, material or dishwasher safety. We would rather leave that off the page than guess. Call us if you want to know exactly, and we will take a glass from the shelf.
Glass and holder in one item
The supplier describes this item as a horn glass with holder. So you do not order a glass and a stand separately: they belong together.
What is not stated is the capacity in centilitres, nor what the holder is made of or how tall the whole thing is. We would rather not fill that in by guesswork. Call +31 570 541 278 and we will measure it for you.
If you would like to see it in person first, come by at Brink 2 in Bathmen.
Frequently asked questions about the La Corne horn glass
Is the holder included?
Yes. The supplier describes this item as a horn glass with holder; you buy them together.
Why can't the glass stand on its own?
The glass is shaped like a horn and tapers to a point at the bottom. That is why it comes with a stand to put it in.
How many centilitres does it hold?
The supplier does not state this for this item. We would rather fill in nothing than a measurement we cannot check. Call us and we will measure it.
Where does the name La Corne come from?
From a place in the Belgian province of Luxembourg: a horn-shaped part of the Anlier forest. In February 1636, during the Thirty Years' War, about a hundred villagers were hanged there.
Doesn’t this glass look like the Pauwel Kwak one?
