Pilsner Urquell is brewed in Plzeň in the Czech Republic. The first batch was mashed on 5 October 1842 by the Bavarian brewer Josef Groll; the beer was first served on 11 November of that year. It is regarded as the first blond lager in the world.
For the glass, that means one thing above all: it is made for a clear, blond beer where you want to see the colour and the head. Hence the tall, slim shape with a stem, and the pull for those who prefer to pour half a litre at a time.
Stemmed glass or pull?
The 50 centilitre pull is there for those who prefer half a litre at a time, or who find the handle more comfortable to hold. It is also a good deal heavier.
