Why here

A small distillery in Losser

Horstman is in Losser, right against the German border in Twente. It is a small distillery and the whisky appears under the name of the maker himself, Johan Horstman.

What stands out is the bottling strength. Where many small distilleries bottle as high as possible, Horstman keeps to forty percent across the whole range. That is a choice and not a coincidence. For the drinker it means nothing needs to be diluted any more.

The red is a grain whisky; alongside it are the blue and the Herfstspirit.

About the distillery

On the edge of Twente

  • The distillery in brief
  • LosserIn the east of Twente.
  • Johan HorstmanThe man behind the distillery.
  • 40%The strength of all bottles.
  • ColoursRed and blue instead of ages.

Losser lies in the far east of Overijssel, right on the German border and just north of Enschede. It is not a region with a long whisky history; what is there has been added over the past decades.

The sources differ on the founding year. Several different years are in circulation and they contradict each other. We therefore do not name one. If you want to know exactly, please ask the distillery itself.

The bottles carry colours and names instead of ages: Red, Blauw, Herfstspirit. There is no age statement on them, so judge them on what is in the glass.

Everything at forty percent, across the whole range.
