Why here

The whole core range together

You usually only see Knockando on the shelf as a twelve-year-old. We have the twelve, fifteen, eighteen and the twenty-one-year-old Master Reserve standing side by side.

Also two casks from independent bottlers, including a fifteen-year-old at cask strength. Not sure which one you need? Give us a call. That's what we're here for.

The core range

Four ages, all at 43 percent.

About the distillery

Bottling by vintage

  • Knockando in five facts
  • 1898founded by John Thomson.
  • Vintagethe distillation year is on the label, not just the age.
  • 1968the in-house floor maltings closes.
  • J&Ba large part of the spirit goes into this blend.
  • 4stills, pear-shaped with a constriction.

Knockando stands in the village of the same name in Moray, overlooking the Spey. The distillery was founded in 1898 and has been, since 1904, in the hands of the same line of companies that eventually ended up at Diageo.

What Knockando does differently from most houses is bottling by vintage. It is not age that determines when the whisky goes into the bottle, but the blender’s judgement; the distillation year is on the label. For single malt this is unusual.

By far the largest part of the production goes to blends, with J&B as the main buyer. Only a small part is bottled as single malt. The whisky is very lightly peated and gets no colouring added.

It is not the calendar but the blender who decides when a Knockando goes into the bottle.

From independent bottlers

Two casks that were bottled outside the distillery.

Frequently asked questions about Knockando

How much Knockando does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Six different bottles: the core range from twelve to twenty-one years plus two casks from independent bottlers. All six are available right now.

What does bottling by vintage mean?

That the distillation year is on the label and that the whisky is bottled when the blender thinks it is ready, instead of after a fixed number of years. With single malt that is rare.

Where does the name Knockando come from?

From the Gaelic, but sources differ: one reads it as hill of the trade, the other as little black hill. What is certain is that it is the name of the village.

Which blend contains Knockando?

Knockando is an important component of J&B. But only a small part of the production ends up in the bottle as a single malt.

Can I reserve a bottle and collect it in Bathmen?

That is possible. Order online and choose pickup, or call us on 0570 541 278 and we will set it aside. Pickup at Brink 2 is free.
