We only count different bottlings that are in stock in the shop and can be viewed there. No gift packs, no tasting packs, and not the same label again in a different size.

The yardstick

How we count, and where we are not the largest

A shop that calls itself the largest should say how it measures. We count the number of different whiskies in stock in the shop on the Brink, counted on 25 October 2026. A gift pack with two glasses does not count as a separate whisky. Nor does a tasting set of three 5 cl bottles. If the same bottling is available in 70 cl and 100 cl, that is one whisky. The figure comes straight from our stock records and changes weekly.

And the other side, because that belongs here too. On the total number of items we are not the largest in the Netherlands: there are drinks stores with well over double, mainly because they stock much more beer, wine and soft drinks. On shop floor space we are not either. And in beer, wine and alcohol-free others are bigger than us.

Where we are at the top is whisky, and spirits as a whole: 6,621 different spirits, from armagnac to vodka. That is what this shop has been built on for generations.

Why here

What stands next to the well-known brands

Glenfiddich, Ardbeg and Macallan are in virtually every wine and spirits shop. The difference lies in what stands next to them: the independent bottlers. From Signatory Vintage there are well over a hundred bottles, from Claxton’s more than a hundred, from Adelphi well over ninety. These bottlings are available in the Netherlands from a limited number of shops.

We also stock single cask bottlings with the cask number on the label, bottles from distilleries that are no longer operating, and editions of a few dozen to a few hundred bottles. Of some of these, only one bottle is left in stock. The range changes weekly; that is why the number at the top of this page comes straight from our stock records.

The range is in the shop in Bathmen and can be viewed there, including the cellar. In the shop there is a tasting cabinet with opened bottles. For advice on a specific bottle you can call or email; you will speak to someone from the shop.

Is ’t Bockje really the largest whisky shop in the Netherlands?

As far as we could check, yes. In September 2026 we counted every Dutch liquor store and drinks shop that publishes a number. The largest we came across stayed below two thousand different whiskies; the largest shop you can walk into had sixteen hundred. We are at 3,986, counted on 25 October 2026. If you come across one with more, let us know and we will update this page.

Where is ’t Bockje not the largest?

In beer, wine and alcohol-free; there are shops that carry more than we do. Nor are we at the top for the total number of items or for shop floor space. We are the largest in whisky, and in spirits as a whole: 6,621 different spirits.

Is everything in the shop also online?

Virtually everything. The online shop is kept in step with the shelf. If a bottle is not listed, just give us a call: of some bottlings there is still some stock in the warehouse.

Can I come by to look and taste?

We would love that. The shop is at Brink 2 in Bathmen, ten minutes from Deventer. In the shop there is a tasting cabinet with open bottles you are welcome to taste from, with no obligation.

Does ’t Bockje also ship abroad?

Yes, to around forty countries. Within the Netherlands, collection in Bathmen is free.

What kind of whisky can I find here that is not available elsewhere?

Mainly independent bottlings and single casks: Signatory Vintage, Claxton’s, Adelphi, Murray McDavid, Gordon & MacPhail. Plus bottles from closed distilleries and editions of sometimes a hundred and fifty worldwide.
