Blended malt is not a blend
This is expressly a blended malt: malt whisky only, from several distilleries, without grain whisky. The blender combines Islay malt with Speyside casks, with GlenAllachie as the backbone.
That is why the brand exists. GlenAllachie itself is unpeated; anyone who loves that house but misses smoke ends up here. The twenty-one-year-old was named best Scotch blended malt by the World Whiskies Awards in 2020.

Lum Reek means chimney smoke in Scots. It comes from the toast lang may yer lum reek: may your chimney keep smoking long, in other words a long and prosperous life.
When Billy Walker bought the GlenAllachie distillery with two partners in 2017, two dormant brands came with the deal. Macnair’s was one of them, and was given new life exactly a year later.
The brand tells a story with it about a nineteenth-century blender who discovered his love of smoky whisky in a cottage with a blocked chimney. There is no independent substantiation for that, so we pass it on as brand story and not as history.
