Older than the stills
Roe & Co was launched in March 2017, two years before a drop was distilled at its own distillery. The blend was developed by Diageo master blender Caroline Martin over a process of more than two years, from bought-in malt and grain whiskey.
The Cask Strength series also consists of older, purchased distillate. The 2021 release, for example, was a thirteen-year-old single grain, and that cannot possibly come from a distillery that started in 2019. Where that whiskey comes from is not disclosed.
The bottles we have in stock

George Roe & Co was once the largest whiskey distillery in Dublin, on Thomas Street. In the nineteenth century it was among the largest in the world; in the interwar period it went under because of American Prohibition and Scottish competition.
Diageo picked up that name in 2017, three years after selling Bushmills, and built a distillery in the former power house of the Guinness brewery on James’s Street. That is a different address from the old Roe distillery: this is a tribute, not a continuation.
Distilling is done on three named stills: Vision, Valor and Virtue. The last is a converted gin still from Tanqueray. In June 2025 Diageo paused distilling in Dublin; blending and bottling continue with existing stock, and the visitor centre stayed open.
The brand is older than the stills that bear its name.
