Roseisle is the first large malt distillery built in Scotland in more than thirty years. The intention was simple: to supply distillate for the owner's blends. That happened from 2009, and for fourteen years the name appeared on no bottle at all.
Only in autumn 2023 did the first official single malt appear, a twelve-year-old. Since then Roseisle has become a brand as well as a plant. Everything you come across under this name therefore comes from that short series.

Fourteen stills and switchable condensers
- Construction in brief
- 2007Announced; construction starts in October.
- 2009Production starts.
- 2010Official opening, on 11 October.
- 2023The first official single malt.
There are fourteen stills, seven wash and seven spirit, made by the group's own coppersmiths in Alloa. Six of the seven pairs of stills have condensers that can be switched between copper and stainless steel. With copper and long fermentations a light, grassy distillate comes out; with stainless steel, so less copper contact, a heavier style. One factory, several characters.
The distillery stands next to the Burghead maltings in Moray and is linked to it: residual heat goes back and forth, and there is its own plant that runs on by-products of production. For that design the complex received a Scottish design award in 2010.
The first official bottling was a twelve-year-old called The Origami Kite, part of the special releases of 2023. A year later a second version of it followed, and after that a fourteen-year-old under the name Harmonic Grace.
For fourteen years the name appeared on no bottle at all.
What these bottles go with
Interesting for anyone who wants to taste what a modern, purpose-designed distillery produces. There is no century of history in the glass, but there are fourteen stills full of intent.
The small bottles are a pleasant way to get acquainted without buying a whole bottle straight away. Ask in the shop what is available at the moment.
