More than just the red bottle
Most shops have Smirnoff Red and that is where it ends. With us that red bottle comes in four sizes, from fifty centilitres to one and a half litres, and alongside it the Black No.55 from the copper pot still and the Export Strength at fifty percent.
If you would like something flavoured, here you will find Lime, Vanille, Raspberry Crush, Mango & Passionfruit Twist and the North with blueberry. Not sure which one you need? Give us a call. That is what we are here for.
The red bottle in four sizes
The same vodka at 37.5 percent, from half a litre to a litre and a half.
Gone from Moscow, and never returned
- The brand in four moments
- 1864Pjotr Arsenjevitsj Smirnov starts a vodka distillery in Moscow.
- 1920–1924After the revolution the family flees. Vladimir Smirnov starts over in Constantinople and then in Lwow, where the name Smirnoff originates.
- 1933Rudolph Kunett builds the first North American distillery, in Bethel in Connecticut.
- 1997The brand ends up with Diageo, formed from Grand Metropolitan and Guinness.
Smirnoff begins in 1864 in Moscow. Pyotr Arsenyevich Smirnov sets up a distillery there under his own name and develops the filtration method the brand becomes known for: the vodka is passed over charcoal.
With the revolution of 1917 it is over in Russia. The family flees. Son Vladimir starts again in Constantinople in 1920, moves to Lwow in 1924 and writes the name there the French way: Smirnoff. In 1933, as soon as Prohibition in the United States is over, Rudolph Kunett builds a distillery in Bethel, Connecticut. Six years later John Martin of Heublein buys the rights, and with that the brand’s American career begins.
Since 1997 Smirnoff has been owned by Diageo. Today it is not made in Russia or elsewhere in Eastern Europe, but in a range of countries, including the United States, Great Britain and Italy. The labels of the bottles we carry say so too: usually the United States, for the North: Italy.
A Russian brand with a Russian name, made outside Russia for well over a century.
Where does No. 21 come from?
The red bottle says No. 21. That is Smirnoff's name for the recipe of the standard vodka, which we stock at 37.5 percent. The black bottle is called No. 55 and is a different vodka, at 40 percent, distilled in copper pot stills.

What is Smirnoff Ice?
Smirnoff Ice came onto the market in the late nineties. Outside the United States it is a vodka-based drink; in the United States it is a malt drink. It is in the vodka category with us, but at four percent it is a very different product from the bottles above.
Serve it cold, straight from the fridge.
Which Smirnoff suits you?
To start with: the red bottle of seventy centilitres. That is the vodka meant in almost every recipe with vodka.
For a larger group: the litre bottle or the bottle of one and a half litres. The same contents, fewer refills.
For those who want to look further: the Black No.55 from the copper pot still, or the Export Strength at fifty percent.

No. Smirnoff Ice is a ready-to-drink mixed drink of 4 percent. Outside the United States it is vodka-based; in the United States it is a malt beverage.
