The brand where 0.0 and 0.3 stand side by side
Gulpener brews in Gulpen in South Limburg and puts two different things side by side on the shelf there: beer of 0.0 percent and beer of 0.3 percent. That seems a small difference, but it is exactly where the legal boundary lies.
The Korenwolf Wit 0.0 is a witbier made from four grains: wheat, spelt, rye and barley, with a spice blend of orange peel, coriander seed and elderflower. The label states 0.0 percent, so this beer may be called alcohol-free.
The Weizen 0.3% is a wheat beer made from wheat malt and barley malt. At 0.3 percent, that beer is above the limit for alcohol-free; legally it is called low-alcohol. Further down this page you can see exactly where those limits lie.

Gulpener is a brewery from Gulpen in South Limburg. Korenwolf is one of its best-known beers, and since 2024 a 0.0 percent version has stood on the shelf alongside the regular wheat beer: Korenwolf Wit 0.0.
That beer is brewed with four local grains (wheat, spelt, rye and barley) and flavoured with a spice blend of orange peel, coriander seed and elderflower. The ingredient list also includes water, hops, yeast and natural flavourings.
The Weizen 0.3% is a different story. It is a wheat beer made from water, wheat malt, barley malt and hops, and it deliberately retains 0.3 percent alcohol. As a result it does not fall under alcohol-free in the Netherlands but under low-alcohol. It is not a mistake on the label; it is a different category.
0.0 and 0.3 look alike, but legally they are two different things.
What exactly does 0.0 mean?
In the Netherlands, fixed limits apply to the word alcohol-free on a label. The Commodities Act Decree on reserved designations permits that designation at no more than 0.1 percent alcohol. If it contains more, up to and including 1.2 percent, it is low-alcohol.
The designation 0.0 does not appear separately in those rules. Brewers put it on the label themselves for beer that stays below the alcohol-free limit. Gulpener does this with the Korenwolf Wit 0.0.
The Weizen 0.3% from the same brand shows why you should look at the figure and not just the word. At 0.3 percent, that beer is above 0.1 and therefore falls into the low-alcohol category.
With beer from abroad it also pays to check. Terms such as alkoholfrei or alcohol free follow the rules of the country of origin, and that limit is not set at the same point everywhere.

Frequently asked questions about Gulpener 0.0
Which alcohol-free Gulpener does ’t Bockje have in stock?
Currently two, both available for immediate delivery: the Korenwolf Wit 0.0 at 0.0 percent and the Weizen 0.3% at 0.3 percent. The range changes; the current situation is shown in the webshop.
Is Gulpener 0.3% also alcohol-free?
No. In the Netherlands, alcohol-free may appear on the label at no more than 0.1 percent alcohol. Above that limit and up to and including 1.2 percent, it is called low-alcohol. At 0.3 percent, the Weizen is therefore a low-alcohol beer.
What is the difference between 0.0 per cent, 0.3 per cent and low-alcohol?
Alcohol-free is allowed at 0.1 percent at most; low-alcohol runs from above that up to and including 1.2 percent. That is stated in the Warenwetbesluit gereserveerde aanduidingen. The designation 0.0 does not appear there separately: brewers use it for beer that stays below the alcohol-free limit.
What is Korenwolf Wit 0.0 made from?
Made from four grains: wheat, spelt, rye and barley. A blend of herbs and spices with orange peel, coriander seed and elderflower is added. The label says 0.0 percent.
Where is Gulpener brewed?
