The alcohol-free range of an established wine house
Natureo is not a stand-alone brand that rode the non-alcoholic wave, but the 0 percent line of Familia Torres, a Spanish wine house that has been making wine for generations. Torres launched Natureo in 2008, after years of research.
We have three: the Syrah, the Muscat and the Rosé of syrah and cabernet sauvignon. The grape is stated on the label of all three, which is far from always the case with alcohol-free wine.
One thing in the product data is not right: for the Natureo Muscat, the alcohol percentage is missing from the label line in our webshop. The other two state 0 percent. We are passing this on to the supplier and are not adding a figure ourselves.

First make wine, then take the alcohol out
- Natureo in four facts
- 2008The year in which Torres launched Natureo.
- 3Bottles we have: syrah, muscat and rosé.
- SpainThe country of origin on all three labels.
- 0%The percentage on the label line of the syrah and the rosé.
Natureo starts out as ordinary wine. The grapes are harvested and fermented at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, exactly like the wines with alcohol from the same house. Only afterwards is the alcohol removed again.
Torres describes these as purely physical procedures: nothing is added to the wine to bring the alcohol content down; the alcohol is removed mechanically. In winemaking this is done by vacuum distillation, reverse osmosis or a spinning cone column. Which of those three Torres uses, the house does not say in its own text.
The labels of these three state the grapes they started with: syrah for the red, muscat for the white, syrah and cabernet sauvignon for the rosé. That grape does not disappear with the alcohol; it still determines where the wine comes from.
Purely physical: the alcohol is not broken down, but taken out.
What exactly does alcohol-free mean for wine?
Dealcoholised wine is a category of its own in the European wine rules. The ceiling is 0.5 percent alcohol. Everything below that may be called so; if it contains more, but less than the regular version of that same wine, it is partially dealcoholised.
That explains why you will find both 0.0 percent and 0.5 percent on the shelf. 0.5 percent is the upper limit of the rule; a producer puts 0.0 percent on the bottle when it stays well below that.
For Torres Natureo, the label of the Syrah and the Rosé states 0 percent. For the Muscat, the percentage is missing from the data we receive. If you want to be sure what is on the bottle itself, just give us a call.

Frequently asked questions about Torres Natureo
Which Torres Natureo does ’t Bockje have in stock?
Three bottles, all available immediately: Torres Natureo Syrah, Torres Natureo Muscat and Torres Natureo Rosé Syrah – Cabernet Sauvignon. All three 75 centilitres.
Since when does Natureo exist?
Torres launched Natureo in 2008, after several years of research.
How is Natureo made non-alcoholic?
The wine is first made in the usual way: harvested and fermented at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The alcohol is then removed by purely physical means. The house does not specify exactly which technique is used.
Which grapes is Natureo made from?
On our label lines, Syrah is listed for the red, Muscat for the white and Syrah with Cabernet Sauvignon for the rosé.
Why does the Natureo Muscat not show an alcohol percentage?
That is missing from the product data we receive from the supplier. We say so and do not fill in a number ourselves. Call us if you want to know what is on the bottle itself.
Why does alcohol-free wine sometimes say 0.0 percent and sometimes 0.5 percent?
0.5 percent is the legal ceiling for dealcoholised wine. A producer who stays well below it puts 0.0 percent on the label.
