Why here

This is beer, and it does not belong here

Birra Moretti is an Italian pale lager of 4.6 percent. In our online shop this crate is listed under other spirits. That does not match what the product is: it belongs with the beer.

That is why we have written this page according to what is in the crate. Whether the item moves in the webshop is a decision for the shop.

The crate contains twenty-four bottles of thirty centilitres, 720 centilitres in total. That is the usual size for a crate of Italian beer.

What a pale lager is

A pale lager is a light, bottom-fermented beer. Birra Moretti also makes a radler, a wheat beer and regional variants, among others; La Rossa, at 7.2 percent, is the strongest in the range.

Birra Moretti was founded in 1859 in Udine, which then belonged to Austria-Hungary. In the late 1980s the company was the third-largest brewer in Italy, with about ten percent of the market.

Since 1996 the brand has belonged to Heineken.

Its best-known feature is the man with the moustache on the label, who has been there since 1942. Accounts of where that image comes from differ; there has even been litigation over it. We leave that open here.
