A Scottish shochu, and that is no mistake
Shochu is originally a Japanese spirit. This bottle comes from Scotland. BrewDog made it in the style of shochu, with galangal, ginger and Scottish rhubarb.
At twenty-three percent it is lower than most spirits and roughly the strength shochu has in Japan too.
BrewDog is best known as a brewery. The company started in 2007 in Fraserburgh and has since been based in Ellon in Aberdeenshire. That is also where the distillery this comes from was located.
That distillery closed in January 2026. BrewDog then stopped making all spirits. So what is still on the shelf will not be restocked.

What exactly is shochu?
Shochu is a Japanese spirit, usually made from rice, barley, sweet potato, buckwheat or brown sugar. The law also allows a long list of other raw materials. Kyushu is the heartland. Standard shochu is around 25 percent: between sake and vodka. Koji mould plays a major role in fermentation; it largely determines the flavour.
