Over BrewDog
BrewDog werd in 2007 opgericht door James Watt en Martin Dickie in Fraserburgh, een havenstad in het noordoosten van Schotland. In 2012 verhuisde de hoofdbrouwerij naar Ellon in Aberdeenshire.
Het bekendste bier van het merk is Punk IPA, het vlaggenschip waarmee BrewDog groot werd. Daarnaast trok de brouwerij aandacht met extreem sterke bieren, zoals The End of History met 55 procent alcohol, en met opvallende acties in plaats van klassieke reclame.
Ook de financiering ging anders dan gebruikelijk. Met Equity for Punks konden liefhebbers vanaf 2011 aandelen in het bedrijf kopen; bij die eerste ronde werd zo'n 2 miljoen pond opgehaald.
James Watt trad in mei 2024 terug als CEO. Op 2 maart 2026 nam drankenbedrijf Tilray de Britse en Ierse activiteiten van BrewDog over, als doorstart uit een Britse insolventieprocedure.

Alcohol-free beer has really got better in recent years

For a long time alcohol-free beer was a stopgap. That has changed: brewers now use yeast that produces hardly any alcohol, or they carefully remove the alcohol afterwards under low pressure, so that the flavour compounds are preserved.
The result is that there is now alcohol-free IPA with real hops, and alcohol-free wheat beer that tastes like wheat beer. For anyone driving or simply wanting to drink less, that makes a world of difference.
Watch the designation: in the Netherlands beer is called alcohol-free up to and including 0.1 percent alcohol and low-alcohol up to 1.2 percent. Beer from Belgium or Germany may be called alcohol-free up to 0.5 percent and is also on the shelf here with that label.
0.0 on the label means less than 0.1 percent. Beer from Belgium or Germany may be called alcohol-free up to 0.5 percent; in the Netherlands that is called low-alcohol.
