About this bottle
Stift Engelszell is in Engelhartszell, in Upper Austria. The monastery was founded in 1293 and shortly afterwards inhabited by Cistercians, until Emperor Joseph II dissolved it in 1786. In 1925 Trappists from Oelenberg Abbey in Alsace moved in; in 1931 the monastery was given the status of an abbey.

Vanaf 2012 werd er weer bier gebrouwen, met het keurmerk Authentic Trappist Product. Het was daarmee de enige trappistenbrouwerij van Oostenrijk, met bieren als Gregorius, Benno en Nivard. In mei 2023 maakten de laatste monniken bekend dat zij het klooster zouden verlaten.
