Why here

Two glasses, and you buy one

From Hangende Harry we currently only have the glassware, no beer. So anyone who comes here is usually looking for exactly that: a glass that has broken, or a second one to complete a set.

We have two: the stackable 33 centilitre glass and the half-litre IPA glass. Order one, or ten. No box, no minimum.

The stackable model is the glass you want in a canteen or a tent. Stackable glasses are the usual choice for draught beer in Dutch hospitality, simply because you need to store them if you have a lot of them.

Which size would you like?

A small bottle of speciality beer is usually 33 centilitres, and then the stackable 33 centilitre glass fits exactly. If you pour from a can or bottle of half a litre, or want to leave room for the head of foam, the 0.5 litre glass is more practical. For a tent or canteen, stackable is the deciding feature.

About the glasses

Why an IPA gets its own glass

  • The two glasses in brief
  • 33 clThe stackable glass, the size of a bottle of specialty beer.
  • 0.5 litreThe large IPA glass.
  • StackableOnly the 33 centilitre glass.
  • NetherlandsCountry of origin according to the label information.

For bottled speciality beer, the glasses supplied by the brewery itself are usually used, and these are matched to the type of beer. That is also what happens here: Hangende Harry has its own glass for its IPA.

The idea behind a separate glass for hoppy beer is the shape of the mouth. With beers that have a complex aroma, the width of the opening determines how much of the scent you pick up; for that reason, since the 1960s breweries have been promoting goblets and other wide-mouthed glasses for top-fermented beers, while a narrow glass such as a flute is used for easy-drinking beer. According to the description in our online shop, the 33 centiliter glass was designed to bring out the hop aromas.

The second point is very practical: stackability. Many Dutch hospitality venues serve draught beer in stackable glasses, for the simple reason that otherwise you cannot store them. The 33 centilitre glass is made for that; the half-litre glass is not.
