Why here

A little glass for the yeast alone

This is not a beer glass in the usual sense. The brewery developed the yeast glass so that the cloudy sediment left at the bottom of the bottle can be poured separately, alongside the clear beer.

In the brewery's own words: to optimise your tasting, you serve that sediment separately for an optimal taste experience. That way you taste the beer and the yeast separately.

The glass holds 7 centiliters. We sell them individually, so you can also order a few extra when tasting with more people.

About the brand

Where the yeast glass comes from

  • Tongerlo at a glance
  • 7 clThe contents of the yeast vial.
  • 1990Since that year Haacht has brewed the Tongerlo beers.
  • BoortmeerbeekThe location of Brouwerij Haacht.
  • Abbey beerTongerlo carries the Erkend Belgisch Abdijbier (Recognised Belgian Abbey Beer) label.

Tongerlo is a Belgian abbey beer that has been brewed since 1990 by Brouwerij Haacht in Boortmeerbeek, with the label Erkend Belgisch Abdijbier. The name comes from the abbey of Tongerlo in the province of Antwerp, where the Norbertines brewed themselves until the First World War.

The yeast glass goes with the beers that referment in the bottle. At the bottom of such a bottle a layer of yeast is left behind. If you pour it in too, the beer turns cloudy and the taste changes; if you leave it, you throw it away.

With this little glass, neither is necessary. You pour the clear beer into your regular glass and the sediment into the yeast glass, and taste them side by side.
