Saint Sixtus Abbey is in Westvleteren, in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The community was founded in 1831, when monks joined the hermit Jan-Baptist Victoor. The abbey's beer is a trappist.
Trappist beer has traditionally been served in a chalice: a wide bowl on a stem and foot. The wide opening releases the aroma, and because you hold the glass by the stem, your hand does not warm the beer.
