Why here

Shot glassware, not beer glasses

Zuidam is a distillery, not a brewery. These two glasses are therefore not with the beer glasses in our shop but with the shot glassware: one is made for jenever and korenwijn, the other for liqueur.

Both are sold individually, by the piece. That helps if you have broken one, or if you give a bottle as a gift and want to add the matching glass.

About the glass

What a tulip-shaped jenever glass is meant for

  • The glass in brief
  • Tulip shapeRound at the bottom, narrower towards the top.
  • 25 mlThe marked fill line.
  • High stemSo that the glass is easy to hold.
  • JeneverAnd korenwijn, including the cask-aged one.

A tulip glass is rounded at the bottom and narrows towards the top. Zuidam explains what that is for: that shape holds in the aromas and only releases them at the moment you drink. With a straight shot glass those aromas fan out immediately.

The tall stem has a reason too. According to the distillery it makes the glass easy to handle: you hold it by the stem instead of around the bowl.

The line at 25 millilitres is a fill line, not a measure of volume. Zuidam states that you pour up to that line for the best taste experience of their genever and korenwijn, including the cask-aged ones. Twenty-five millilitres is two and a half centilitres.

Zuidam Distillers is based in Baarle-Nassau and started in 1975, founded by Fred van Zuidam. It is still a family business; alongside jenever and liqueur they make gin, rum and whisky, among other things.

The shape of the tulip glass holds on to aromas and then releases them as you drink.

Which glass do you choose?

Do you drink genever or korenwijn? Then the stemmed genever glass. Pour up to the line at 25 millilitres; that is the measure the distillery designed the glass for.

Do you drink liqueur? Then the liqueur glass. That is the other model, mouth-blown according to Zuidam.

If you are looking for a gift, a glass like this goes well alongside a bottle. We wrap it for you in the shop.

Two spirit glasses: the stemmed jenever glass with a fill line at 25 millilitres, and the liqueur glass.

What does that 25 millilitres on the jenever glass mean?

Why is a jenever glass tulip-shaped?

The tulip shape is round at the bottom and narrows towards the top. According to Zuidam, this shape holds the aromas and only releases them the moment you drink. The tall stem makes the glass easy to handle.

Sold individually, per piece. Order one if you need just one.

Is the liqueur glass mouth-blown?

Zuidam states that the liqueur glass is genuinely mouth-blown.
