Irish whiskey casks beneath the rum
Ireland has no sugar cane, but it does have casks. Blacks matures its rum in casks that previously held Irish single malt; that is where the golden colour and the character come from.
The bottle won gold at the World Rum Awards in 2020. It is one of the few Irish rums you will come across in the Netherlands.

A cask is never empty when it is empty: the wood has absorbed years of whisky and slowly gives it back. Rum that goes into such a cask takes on part of that character.
That is the core of this bottle. The base rum comes from elsewhere; the Irish whisky casks make it what it is.
We stock more rum that has been matured in Europe instead of in the tropics. Look for example at MacNair’s, which does the same with Scottish casks.

What this bottle goes with
A rum with distinct whisky notes works well neat or over one large ice cube.
In a cocktail, it works best where an aged rum would normally go, such as an Old Fashioned.
