Smoky rum
A smoked rum is unusual. This New Grove got its smoky notes not from the sugar cane but from the cask: after seven years in Limousin oak it spent another year in casks that had previously held Islay single malt.
Nothing else has been done to it. No chill filtration, no additives, no sugar and no colouring. What happened in the cask is in the bottle.

New Grove comes from Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean with a long sugar cane history. This bottling is a traditional very old single estate rum based on molasses.
Islay is the Scottish island where the most heavily peated single malts come from. A cask that has lain there carries peat smoke with it for years afterwards, and that ends up in this rum.
The result is a peated rum: rum with smoky notes. For anyone who knows whisky from Islay that is instantly recognisable; for anyone who only drinks rum, it is a big step sideways.
No chill filtration, no additives, no sugar, no colouring.
What this bottle goes with
Drink it neat. The smoke and the cask notes need room, and at 46 percent nothing needs to be added.
Another rum from Mauritius on the shelf: see our Lazy Dodo page for the softer side of the island.
