A bottle from another era
This rum was distilled in 1975. That is a year you rarely come across on a rum shelf, and it makes this bottle a piece of liquid history from Barbados.
After distillation it lay for well over fifteen years in oak casks. The brand describes it as a very luxurious, exclusive rum that is filled only in small quantities, and advises drinking it neat.

Cigüeña is Spanish for stork. The rum is made by De Ooievaar, the Dutch liqueur distillery that is also behind the Van Wees bottles.
That a Dutch house puts rum from Barbados on the bottle under its own name is not unusual: it is exactly what bottlers have been doing for centuries. The rum comes from the Caribbean, the selection and bottling happen here.
What makes it special is the age. Rum from 1975 that spent well over fifteen years in cask will not come again. When the bottle is gone, it is gone.
Bottled only in small quantities. Drink this rum neat.
What this bottle goes with
Neat, from a tulip glass, at room temperature. The brand's own advice is clear: do not mix.
Another bottle from the same Dutch house: the Van Wees Arac Java Baru.
