Mackmyra DNA next to Davidoff Winston Churchill The Late Hour Robusto
A Swedish single malt with Swedish oak, alongside a Dominican robusto with a sweet woody note. Two kinds of oak side by side.

From the shelf
The bottle
Mackmyra is a Swedish distillery. This DNA from the Small Batch Kollektion matured for a third on Swedish oak and is bottled at 48.6 percent ABV. The edition is 2727 bottles.
The combination
Why this works together
Swedish oak has a tighter grain than American oak and leaves spice and pepper rather than vanilla. The Late Hour Robusto is 127 mm long and works with a wrapper that gives sweet wood; the filler adds spiciness to that. That combination is close to what Swedish oak does in the whisky, while the 48.6 percent alcohol by volume keeps enough tension to stop it being uniform.
Beside the glass
The cigar
We do not sell cigars; we supply the whisky. These cigars go well alongside this bottle.

- Davidoff Winston Churchill The Late Hour Robusto Dominican robusto of 127 mm with sweet wood and spiciness, alongside the spice from Swedish oak.
- Davidoff Nicaragua Robusto From the same house but with Nicaraguan tobacco: clearly more pepper.
- Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, drier and nuttier in tone.
- AVO Syncro Nicaragua Robusto Robusto with tobacco from four countries, between the other three in weight.
In the glass
Serving
Neat in a tulip glass. At 48.6% ABV a few drops of water bring out the spiciness. Drink it in the pauses between puffs.
