Why this works together

Chosen by type (whisky). Whisky goes with dishes that have their own character, with an aged cheese and, after the meal, with something with chocolate, caramel or nuts.

What is needed

  • 2 kilos spare ribs
  • 6 tablespoons barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 4 corn cobs

  2. Rub the spare ribs with the paprika, salt and pepper, wrap them in aluminium foil and cook them in the oven for 2 to 2.5 hours.
  3. Mix the barbecue sauce with the honey and the crushed garlic.
  4. Boil the corn cobs for 10 minutes in salted water.
  5. Grill the spare ribs and the corn for 10 minutes on the hot barbecue, brushing the ribs regularly with the sauce until they shine.

After the meal

A cigar with Glen Moray Classic Cabernet Cask Finish

We have paired this cigar with Glenfiddich 12 Years Old, another whisky from Scotland.

Cigars
Our choice

Montecristo No. 5

Cuban petit corona of 102 mm, short and restrained, so that the light Speyside malt does not fade.

Why this works together

A petit corona of 102 mm is the shortest size Montecristo makes. Little tobacco burns at a time, so the smoke stays light and the cigar is finished within half an hour. That suits a malt of 40 per cent ABV: a longer or thicker cigar would simply push aside the floral character.

Also good with this whisky

  • H. Upmann Coronas JuniorPetit corona of 110 mm with a softer, woodier tone than the Montecristo.
  • Romeo y Julieta Petit CoronasPetit corona of 129 mm, slightly longer, floral and light in weight.
  • Macanudo Café Hyde ParkDominican robusto under a Connecticut wrapper: wood and cream, without sharpness.

We do not sell cigars; we supply the whisky.
