What Dylan does and does not do here
Heaven’s Door began in April 2018 as a collaboration between Bob Dylan and investor Marc Bushala. Dylan's role is that of co-founder and artist. The core bottles show photos of wrought-iron gates that he made himself in his forge, Black Buffalo Ironworks, built from found farm implements, chains and wheels.
The distillate is a different story. The brand had its spirit distilled by third parties and has been building its own distillery in Pleasureville, Kentucky since 2017. A ten-year-old and an eighteen-year-old cannot by definition come from there: those were bought in, and which distillery they come from is not disclosed.

Bootleg, named after the bootlegs
- The brand in brief
- April 2018The brand gets started.
- ChicagoWhere the company is based.
- PleasurevilleWhere the company's own distillery will be.
- 2019The first Bootleg Series.
The Bootleg Series is named after Dylan's own musical Bootleg Series and has appeared every year since 2019 as a very limited bottling. The bottle is handmade ceramic with a painting by Dylan on it, in a leather case.
Earlier instalments give an idea of the set-up: part three was a thirteen-year-old with a finish in vino de naranja, part four an eleven-year-old with a finish in Islay casks, part six a composition of twelve-, thirteen- and fourteen-year-old wheated bourbons. Part five, which we have in stock, is an eighteen-year-old straight bourbon with a finish in Spanish vermouth casks.
The Decade Series is the range of ten-year-olds. Exactly what is in it differs per volume; the third volume consists of ninety-two percent straight bourbon and eight percent straight rye, distilled between 2011 and 2013 and matured in heavily toasted casks.
The gates on the label are his work, the whiskey is not.
What to look out for
These two bottles are sourced distillate; where it was distilled is not disclosed.
The Bootleg Series is an annual, very small release. What is gone does not come back.
