Why here

Twelve bottles from a young distillery

Nc’nean bottles in small series that sell out quickly. We have twelve of them: three numbered bottlings of the regular single malt, the cask strength, four parts from the Quiet Rebels series, three Huntress editions and a single cask finished on rum.

Everything comes from organic barley and goes into a bottle of one hundred percent recycled glass. If you are not sure which one you need, just give us a call. That is what we are here for.

The core-range single malt

Three numbered bottlings at 46 percent, plus the cask strength.

About the distillery

Organic, and at net zero

  • Nc’nean in five facts
  • 2017Annabel Thomas starts distilling at Morvern.
  • 2020the first single malt is released in August.
  • 2021first distillery in the UK to reach net zero for its production.
  • 2022certified as a B Corp.
  • 100%recycled glass: that saves about 40 percent in emissions per bottle.

Nc’nean stands at Drimnin on the Morvern peninsula, on the Sound of Mull, with Mull on the other side. Annabel Thomas founded the distillery; the first spirit ran in March 2017 and the first single malt was released in August 2020. The name comes from Neachneohain, a figure from Gaelic mythology.

All the barley is organic and Scottish. The energy comes from biomass and green electricity, and in 2021 Nc’nean became the first distillery in the United Kingdom to bring its production emissions down to zero; the calculation was checked by an external agency. The bottle is made of one hundred percent recycled clear glass. Since February 2022 the company has been a B Corp.

Two series return every year. In Quiet Rebels, an employee each time creates a whisky of their own together with the blender; the series began in November 2021 with founder Annabel. Huntress appears in spring and is about tasting within the production itself, for example with special yeast strains. All Huntress bottles come out at 48.5 percent.

Not the cask but the yeast and the barley: that is where the experiment lies at Nc’nean.

Quiet Rebels

Four instalments from the series in which an employee creates a whisky of their own together with the blender. All four at 48.5 percent.

At Drimnin on the Morvern peninsula on the west coast of Scotland, on the Sound of Mull. The first spirit ran there in March 2017.
