About the bottler

North Star Spirits was founded in 2016 by Iain Croucher, who buys casks in Glasgow and bottles by hand with a team of three. The name refers to the concept of True North from navigation; the idea came from his wife Zoë.

The starting point is simple: everything at cask strength, natural colour and no chill filtration, with as much information as possible on the label. Croucher focuses on casks that are different: unusual distilleries, unusual finishes, small runs.

Alongside the numbered Cask Series there are smaller series. Periodical, started in September 2021, is meant for casks that hold too little; they come out in a fixed form. Obscurities & Curiosities holds the odd ones out, and the Connection series brings regional blends such as The Campbeltown Connection. Vega is the blended malt line, Tarot a series with tarot card names.

Frequently asked questions about North Star

How many North Star does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Twenty-two different bottles, including eight from the current Cask Series and six individual single casks. All twenty-two are available at the moment.

Who is North Star Spirits?

An independent bottler from Glasgow, founded in 2016 by Iain Croucher. Everything is bottled by hand by a team of three.

At what strength does North Star bottle?

At cask strength, without exception. No colouring is added and it is not chill-filtered.

What is the Cask Series?

The numbered main series of single casks. We have eight from that line, from a six-year-old Nc’nean to a nineteen-year-old Glen Moray.

What is Periodical?

A series that began in September 2021, intended for casks that hold too little to make a regular bottling. They therefore appear irregularly.

Why is there no distillery on the label of the Williamson?

Because the owner does not allow it. Williamson is such a replacement name. There is a lot of speculation about it, but we do not add a name that has not been confirmed.
