Why there is no name on it
Distilleries sell casks on to bottlers, and often on condition that their name does not appear on them. That way they keep control of their own brand. Peat’s Beast is a case in point: it is Scottish single malt, but which distillery it comes from is not disclosed.
Guesses are doing the rounds on the internet, and even about the region sources contradict each other. We therefore name nothing. What is certain: it is Scottish single malt, heavily peated, at forty-six percent, matured in bourbon casks.
The bottles we have in stock
The standard bottle and the batch-strength expressions.
A bottle without a face
- The brand in brief
- 2010The first bottling.
- 46%The strength of the standard bottle.
- PXThe cask of the sweeter version.
- UnknownThe distillery.
Peat’s Beast was the very first release in 2010 of the company that bottles it, an independent bottler and blender that also has other brands in its range.
Besides the standard bottle at forty-six percent there is an expression at batch strength: the same whisky, but not reduced to forty-six percent. And there is a version that has been finished for nine months on Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, which gives the smoke a sweet counterpart.
None of the bottles carries an age. That is part of the concept: what you buy is a style, not a year.
The smoke, but not the name.
What these bottles go with
For anyone looking for a heavily peated whisky without being tied to a well-known name. The smoke comes first.
The PX version is the bottle to pick if you want to know what sweet sherry does with peat smoke.

Frequently asked questions about Peat’s Beast
How many Peat’s Beast does ’t Bockje have in stock?
Three bottles.
Which distillery is this from?
That is not disclosed. It is Scottish single malt; which house is behind it is part of the agreement between distillery and bottler.
So which region does it come from?
That cannot be established either. Sources contradict each other, so we do not name a region.
How heavily peated is it?
Sturdy. The standard bottle goes into the bottle at forty-six percent and matures in bourbon casks.
What is Batch Strength?
The same whisky, but bottled at the strength of the batch itself instead of being reduced to forty-six percent.
