A distillery you mostly taste in a blend
There is only one official bottling of Strathmill: the twelve-year-old from the Flora & Fauna series. Everything else comes from independent bottlers, and those casks differ from one to the next.
Besides that twelve-year-old we have a Gordon & MacPhail from 2009 and a Signatory from 2012 at one hundred British proof. If you are not sure which one you need, give us a call. That is what we are here for.
The three bottles
One from the distillery itself, two from bottlers.

From flour mill to malt whisky
- Strathmill in four facts
- 1823a flour mill on the River Isla then stands on the site.
- 1891the building is converted into a distillery.
- J&Bthe blend that most of the whisky goes into.
- 1997the distillery goes to Diageo.
Strathmill stands in Keith in Speyside, on the River Isla. A flour mill stood there first; in 1891 the building was converted into a distillery. Since 1997 the house has belonged to Diageo.
Most of the production disappears into J&B. That is exactly why you rarely come across Strathmill as a single malt: there is only one official bottling, the twelve-year-old from the Flora & Fauna series.
Technically, Strathmill has a peculiarity: the spirit stills have a purifier, a pipe that runs back from the swan neck to the still. Heavier vapours therefore condense sooner and go back into the still. The result is a lighter distillate.
One official bottle, and otherwise only casks that bottlers manage to get hold of.
Frequently asked questions about Strathmill
How many Strathmill does ’t Bockje have in stock?
Three bottles: the official twelve-year-old and two casks from bottlers. All three currently available.
Why is Strathmill rare as a single malt?
Because most of the production disappears into the J&B blend. The distillery itself only releases the twelve-year-old in the Flora & Fauna series.
What is a purifier?
A pipe that runs back from the swan neck of the still to the still itself. Heavier vapours therefore condense sooner and are distilled again, which gives a lighter distillate. Strathmill has them on its spirit stills.
What does 100 Proof mean?
One hundred British proof, that is 57.1 percent alcohol. Signatory bottles part of its casks at exactly that strength every time.
Where is Strathmill?
In Keith in Speyside, on the River Isla, on the site of an old flour mill.
