Why here

Intervening as little as possible

Tri Carragh bottles only single cask: every bottle comes from one cask, at cask strength, without chill filtration and without added colour. New releases appear quarterly and are then sold out.

The founders, Ryan McCafferty and Ola Lopatowska, spent years on the tasting panel of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and then worked at a cask trader. That background explains the spread: Speyside, Highlands, Lowlands, Islay and grain whisky, from young to well over thirty years.

About the names on the label

Why sometimes no distillery is listed

  • The bottler in brief
  • EdinburghWhere the company is based.
  • 2021Founded.
  • 2022The first bottlings, in October.
  • Per quarterThat is how often a new series appears.

Most bottles simply name the distillery: Aultmore, Bowmore, Glen Garioch, Mannochmore. Others say something like Secret Speyside or a place name you will not find on the whisky map.

That is not a game but a condition. Distilleries sell casks to third parties on condition that their name does not appear on them, or a little malt from elsewhere has been added, which legally makes it a blended malt and means the name may not be used. In the trade, such a cover name is usually linked to one particular distillery, but that is never confirmed. We therefore make no statement about it.

The bottler's own name has been explained: tri carragh means three pillars, and those pillars are water, barley and yeast. Everything that comes after (cask, filtration, colour) is left alone as much as possible.

Water, barley and yeast. Leave the rest alone as much as possible.

Practical

What these bottles go with

Cask strength gives you room to add water yourself. Start neat and work down drop by drop.

Because these are individual casks, every bottle is a snapshot. Two bottlings from the same distillery can lie far apart.

Six bottles.

What does Tri Carragh mean?

No, it is an independent bottler from Edinburgh, founded in 2021 with the first bottlings in October 2022.

How is it bottled?
