Spain is one of the few countries where the label states how long a wine has aged before it was allowed to be sold. Crianza is at least two years old with at least one year in oak, reserva at least three years and gran reserva at least five.
These terms are fixed by law, so they mean the same everywhere in Spain. Note, though: outside Spain, in Chile for example, they are the house's own designations, with no legal meaning.
In Spain crianza and reserva are fixed by law. In Chile they are the house's own designations.
