Malbec and the altitude of Mendoza

- Argentinacountry of origin
Malbec originally comes from France, where after a severe frost night in 1956 it largely disappeared. In Mendoza it thrives, and there it has become the country’s flagship.
What makes Argentina special is the altitude: vineyards often lie above a thousand metres, where the nights are cool. As a result the grapes ripen fully but keep their freshness.
French malbec is austere, Argentine malbec round and ripe. Same grape, different place.
