Bizongraswodka, maar niet die van het bekende merk
Bison grass vodka is a Polish type, and there is more than one. Grasovka is one of them, but the brand is not Polish: it belongs to the German house Underberg. The vodka is made in Poland and filled in Germany.
We have two in stock, the 70 centilitre bottle and the litre bottle. The two labels state a different strength; what each bottle states is shown on the card below.

What is bison grass?
Bison grass is the trade name of Hierochloe odorata, in Dutch veenreukgras. It grows, among other places, in the Białowieża Forest on the border of Poland and Belarus, where the last wild European bison also live. The grass is harvested and dried by hand, and one blade goes into every bottle. It contains coumarin, an aroma compound with notes of vanilla and freshly cut hay.
Een Duits merk op een Poolse wodka
- The brand in brief
- 1976Emil Underberg comes up with the brand name Grasovka.
- PolandDaar wordt de wodka gemaakt.
- GermanyThat is where it is filled and brought to market.
- RoggeEen graanmengsel met rogge als hoofdbestanddeel.
Grasovka is a brand of the German drinks house Underberg. The brand name was devised in 1976 by Emil Underberg. The vodka itself comes from Poland; the bottling takes place in Germany.
Both are bison grass vodkas, and both are made in Poland. The difference lies in the origin and ownership of the brand. Żubrówka is a Polish brand, made since 1928 at Polmos Białystok and now owned by the Polish Maspex group. Grasovka is a German brand of Underberg, which has the vodka made in Poland and bottles it in Germany. So they are two different brands within the same type.
70 centilitres or a litre?
The difference between the two bottles is first of all the quantity. If you would like to try Grasovka once, the 70-centiliter bottle is the logical choice; if you drink it more often, there is also the litre bottle.
Let wel op de sterkte: op het etiket van de fles van 70 centiliter staat 40 procent, op dat van de literfles 38 procent.
Both are in the shop at Brink 2 in Bathmen. Call 0570 541 278 or email info@bockje.nl if you would like to talk it over.
