Not a vodka, but a passion fruit liqueur
Passoã is in our vodka category, and in most other shops too. That is because the bottle is almost always served together with vodka. Strictly speaking that classification is wrong: Passoã is a liqueur, made from passion fruit, and at 17 percent it is a good deal lower than the vodkas on the same shelf.
We stock two: the one-litre bottle and the 70 centilitre one. The same liqueur, a different size. If you are not sure which one you need, just give us a call. That is what we are here for.
The two bottles we have in stock
The same 17 percent liqueur, in two sizes.
Why is Passoã with the vodka?
Because that is how it is actually drunk. The best-known use is the Pornstar Martini, in which Passoã is combined with vanilla vodka and a glass of sparkling wine goes alongside. The label simply says what it is: fruit liqueur, country of origin France, 17 percent.
Passion fruit from Brazil, made in Angers
- The brand in four facts
- Passion fruitThe main raw material; the juice comes from Brazil.
- AngersThe city in the west of France where Passoã is made.
- 17%The alcohol percentage of the bottles we stock.
- 2020Since the end of that year entirely owned by Lucas Bols.
Passoã is a French liqueur whose main ingredient is passion fruit; the juice for it comes from Brazil. The liqueur is pink to orange-red in colour. In the Netherlands it is bottled at 17 percent; in other countries the brand sometimes uses a different percentage.
It is made in Angers, in the west of France. The brand long belonged to the French group Rémy Cointreau. In 2016 Rémy Cointreau and the Amsterdam-based Lucas Bols placed it in a joint venture, Passoã SAS; at the end of 2020 Rémy Cointreau sold its share in it to Lucas Bols. Since then the brand has belonged to Lucas Bols.
In the Netherlands, you know Passoã mainly from the Pornstar Martini. That cocktail made the brand known beyond its own category, and also explains why the bottle sits with the vodka in almost every online shop rather than with the liqueurs.
The label says fruit liqueur; on the shelf it stands with the vodka.
One liter or 70 centiliters?
There is no difference in content between the two: the same liqueur, the same percentage. It is only about the size.
If you are going to make cocktails with it for a group, the litre bottle is the logical choice. If you would first like to have it at home, 70 centilitres is enough.
