The Chouffe from the alcohol-free shelf
This page covers only the Chouffe without significant alcohol. La Chouffe Blond, Mc Chouffe and the rest of the family are on our beer shelf; they are not covered here.
What we have on the alcohol-free shelf is Chouffe 0.4%, a golden blonde beer in a 33 centilitre bottle. The label states 0.4 percent alcohol. That is not zero, and the difference is worth noting if you are deliberately looking for a 0.0.
Achouffe now also has a La Chouffe 0.0% in its range. The bottle on our shelf is the 0.4. If you would like to know whether the 0.0 is coming, please give us a call.

Brasserie d’Achouffe is in Wibrin, in the Belgian province of Luxembourg, in the middle of the Ardennes. The brewery was founded in 1982 and grew into one of the best-known names in Belgian speciality beer, recognisable by the little gnome on the label.
Since 2006 Achouffe has belonged to the Duvel Moortgat group, together with Duvel itself, Liefmans in Oudenaarde and De Koninck in Antwerp, among others. The brewery kept brewing in Achouffe and receives visitors there.
The low-alcohol version was added in 2022. It follows the profile of the blond from the same house, but with 0.4 percent alcohol instead of the full percentage.
0.0 percent, 0.4 percent, low-alcohol: where are the limits?
0.0 is not a legal category. It is a designation the brewer puts on the label themselves. The law works with two other terms, and for this beer that makes a difference.
Under the Dutch Commodities Act Decree on reserved designations, beer may be called alcohol-free at no more than 0.1 percent alcohol. If it contains more, up to and including 1.2 percent, it is low-alcohol. At 0.4 percent, Chouffe 0.4 falls into that second group.
The Dutch Alcohol Act has a third threshold: only from 0.5 percent alcohol, measured at 20 degrees, does a drink count as an alcoholic beverage. At 0.4 percent, this beer stays just below it.
If you are looking for true zero, look for a bottle with 0.0 on the label. If you are looking for the Achouffe beer with virtually no alcohol, this is the one.
