A dark wheat beer without alcohol
Most alcohol-free beer on the shelf is light and blonde. Skuumkoppe 0.0 is not: it is the alcohol-free version of a dark wheat beer. If you think alcohol-free beer always comes down to the same thing, this is something different.
According to the label information in our webshop, it is 0 percent alcohol. That is the category most people mean when they ask for alcohol-free beer, and it should not be confused with the 0.2 or 0.3 percent beers that often stand next to it.
We have ample stock. Feel free to call if you need a crate or a larger quantity for a party or a meeting.

A former dairy factory in Oudeschild
- The brewery in brief
- OudeschildThe brewery is housed in a former dairy factory on the Schilderweg.
- 1999The year in which the brewery continued under the name Texelse Bierbrouwerij.
- Dune waterIt is brewed with water that has been filtered through the dunes.
- 2020The year in which Heineken Nederland took over the brewery.
The Texelse Bierbrouwerij is in Oudeschild on Texel, in a former dairy factory on the Schilderweg. The brewery started in 1994 under the name Tesselse Bierbrouwerij, closed at the end of 1998 and continued in 1999 under its current name. At the end of 2020 the brewery was taken over by Heineken Nederland.
It is brewed with water filtered through the island’s dunes, and with barley largely grown on Texel itself. Skuumkoppe is the house’s best-known beer: a dark wheat beer.
For the alcohol-free version, the brewery says it worked on the recipe for a year, with the aim of preserving the flavour, colour and haze of the regular Skuumkoppe. How well that has worked, you will have to taste for yourself; we do not present the brewer’s verdict as if it were our own.
Dark wheat beer at 0.0 percent, not the usual light blond 0.0.
What does 0.0 mean, and where is the limit?
In the Netherlands, the Commodities Act (Warenwet) determines what may appear on the label. The designation alcohol-free may be used up to and including 0.1 percent alcohol. Low-alcohol runs from more than 0.1 percent up to and including 1.2 percent. A beer of 0.2 or 0.3 percent therefore belongs to that second group, even if it says “non alcoholic” in large letters.
The Dutch Alcohol Act draws its own line: a drink with more than 0.5 percent alcohol at twenty degrees counts as an alcoholic beverage. Those two limits are not in the same place, and that is where much of the confusion comes from.
0.0 is not a legal designation in itself. It is a figure that brewers put on the label for beer that contains practically no alcohol any more. Skuumkoppe 0.0 carries it, and the label information in our webshop states 0 percent. That is therefore a different category from a beer with 0.2 or 0.3 percent on the packaging.
