Why here

What we have from this brewery

We have one beer from this brand in stock: the Jan van Oudenaarde Tripel Glutenvrij, a blonde tripel of 8% in a 33 cl bottle. A small selection, but it is there.

The beer comes from Brouwerij Slaapmutske in Melle, close to Ghent. It is a top-fermented beer refermented in the bottle, brewed with a single hop variety: Challenger, in both the main hopping and the dry-hopping.

During lagering, the gluten is removed from the beer. The brewery analyses each batch for this and issues a certificate of analysis. That is a characteristic of the product; we make no further claims about it.

If you are not sure whether this beer suits you, give us a call. That is what we are here for.

Slaapmutske is the beer house of Dany De Smet and Marleen Vercaigne from Melle, near Ghent. Dany graduated in 1992 as a brewing engineer from Hogeschool Gent and then spent years brewing test batches at home of around fifty litres at a time.

The name comes from the family. After the birth of their son Jonas, in November 1999, they brewed a beer that did not yet have a name. Marleen called it a sleeping beer, and the name stuck. At the end of 2000 Slaapmutske Winterbier was in the shops.

When demand grew, production moved to De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi. Jan van Oudenaarde is also brewed there. From 2004 the beer crossed the border, first to the Netherlands and then to dozens of other countries.

Jan van Oudenaarde came onto the market in 2012, for the bicentenary of the Oudenaarde firm Jan van Gent.
