In 2017 the first Duvel Barrel Aged was released: a tasting beer matured in wooden whisky casks from American bourbon distilleries. After six editions, the brewers went to Ireland.
There they found oak whiskey casks at the Teeling distillery in the heart of Dublin. That became batch 7, the bottle in this gift pack.
On the taste, the brewery writes that maturing in those Irish casks gave the classic Duvel powerful smoky notes of oak and vanilla, and a deeper, copper-coloured hue.
Why a 75 centilitre bottle?
The Barrel Aged comes in a 75 centilitre bottle, larger than the usual 33 centilitres. This gift pack includes a glass, so the bottle can actually be poured.
Who is this Duvel a gift for?
For someone who already drinks Duvel: this is the same Duvel, but matured in Irish whiskey casks. That difference is exactly the gift.
For those who also drink whisky: the casks come from Teeling in Dublin. That combination appeals to someone who knows both sides.
