Hertog Jan is a brand with many glasses
Hertog Jan brews pils, a Tripel, a Dubbel, a bock, a weizener and the Grand Prestige in Arcen. Those beers come with different glasses, and that is where people get stuck: which glass goes with what, and how much does it hold?
We have eight in our range, seven of which are available straight away. The 20-centilitre beer glass is currently sold out; we do not put an order button for it on this page, because a button that gets you nothing helps no one. Feel free to call and we will note your name.
Everything is sold individually here. If you have lost one from a set, just order one more.
For lager
Two 25-centilitre glasses for everyday use: the pils glass and the beer glass.
Hertog Jan Bierglas 25 cl
Described in the online shop as a 25-centilitre beer glass. The same size as the pils glass.
€ 3,75
And the 20-centilitre beer glass?
That eighth model is in our range, but stock is currently zero. If you would like one, call 0570 541 278 or email info@bockje.nl; we will note your name and call as soon as the glass is back in.

A goblet is the collective name for beer glasses with a wide-mouthed, somewhat rounded bowl resting on a stem with a foot. Since the 1960s breweries have mainly distributed this model for top-fermented beers with a complex aroma. Connoisseurs believe that the aroma and flavour of such beers come into their own better in a wide-mouthed goblet than in a narrow-mouthed glass such as the fluitje or the jonker.
That is why you usually get a goblet with a Tripel or a Dubbel and a straight glass with a lager. It is not a rule, but it is why breweries make those glasses.
The weizen glass belongs with wheat beer. Weizenbier is a top-fermented beer originally from southern Germany or Bavaria, containing at least half wheat malt alongside barley malt. The yeast produces many esters, which give the beer the fruity and spicy notes often compared to banana and clove. Hertog Jan has the Weizener in its permanent range; we stock the matching glass in 30 and in 50 centilitres.
The Grand Prestige glass is the most recognisable of the seven: according to the description it has a gold rim and the Grand Prestige logo on it. Grand Prestige is a beer that Hertog Jan has in the past also released under the name Magnus.
A wide mouth lets the aroma out. A narrow glass keeps it in. That is the whole difference.

Which one do you need?
For lager: the pils glass or the 25-centilitre beer glass. Those are the two found most often in ordinary cupboards.
For the Tripel, the Dubbel or the bock: the beer goblet or the stemmed glass. A wider mouth on a stem is the model breweries supply with top-fermented beers.
For the Grand Prestige: its own glass with the gold rim. It is the only one of the seven tied to a single beer.
For the Weizener: the weizen glass, in 30 or in 50 centilitres, depending on whether you pour a bottle or half a litre.
Not sure? Call 0570 541 278 or email info@bockje.nl. We will take the glass off the shelf and describe it for you.
