Why here

The glass for a pilsner

We stock one glass from Neubourg. The capacity is not stated with the product; if you would like to know it exactly, give us a call and we will measure it.

Château Neubourg is the pilsner of Gulpener Bierbrouwerij in Gulpen. At 5.5 percent, that beer is slightly stronger than the ordinary Dutch pils, which is usually 5 percent.

With pilsner you ask something different of a glass than with a heavy beer: it must keep the beer cold and the head firm. Straight or slightly tapered works best for that, and above all: clean.

Château Neubourg is a pilsner from Gulpener Bierbrouwerij in Gulpen, South Limburg. The beer is 5.5 percent, where most Dutch pils is 5 percent.

With pilsner, the temperature matters, and so does the glass. Serve it cold, with a head, and above all: in a glass free of grease. That last point is the most common reason pilsner at home goes flat in the glass within a minute, while in the café it holds for half an hour.

A pilsner glass does not need to gather the aroma the way a tulip or a chalice does. What you want with pilsner is a firm head and beer that stays cold.

Grease is the enemy of foam

Rinse a beer glass with hot water free of detergent residue, and don't dry it with a towel washed with fabric softener. Grease residue makes the head collapse within a minute. That is the most common reason beer foams differently at home than in the pub.

What to know before you order
