Why the glass matters
The glass helps determine how a drink smells and tastes. A whisky glass with a narrow opening, such as the tulip-shaped nosing glass, keeps the aroma together, so the aromas are easier to smell. A low tumbler, on the other hand, is suited to whisky with ice or a cocktail made directly in the glass.
Beer glasses are often matched to a style or a brewery: a tulip glass for strong specialty beers, a tall glass for wheat beer, a slender flute for pilsner. Shot glasses are there for a shot with a beer or a liqueur after dinner. Below, for each type, you can see which glasses are currently in the shop at the Brink in Bathmen. A good glass does not have to be expensive. More important is that the shape suits what goes into it and that the glass is clean and free of soap residue, because that flattens the head of beer and changes the aroma of whisky. Rinsing glasses with warm water and letting them drain on their foot is enough. If you give a bottle as a gift, complete it with two matching glasses.
