Dit is het grootste misverstand bij jenever: jonge en oude jenever zeggen niets over hoe lang de fles heeft gelegen. Het gaat om het recept.
Oude jenever is de traditionele stijl, met veel moutwijn: graanalcohol die op een ouderwetse manier is gestookt. Dat geeft een volle, licht zoete, granige smaak. Jonge jenever kwam pas in de twintigste eeuw op, met minder moutwijn en een neutralere basis: lichter en droger, en beter geschikt om te mixen.
Is een jenever wél op een vat gerijpt, dan staat dat er los bij: bijvoorbeeld vijf of tien jaar. Dat is dus iets anders dan oud.
Old jenever is not an old bottle. It is an older recipe, with more malt wine.

What is the difference between jonge and old jenever?
That is not about age but about the recipe. Oude jenever has more malt wine and is fuller and grainier; jonge jenever has a more neutral base and is lighter and drier.
How do you serve jenever?
At cellar temperature in a tulip glass rather than ice-cold from a traditional jenever shot glass. Then you taste the grain and the botanicals.
