Four casks you do not come across every day
Adelphi bottles Scotch whisky first and foremost, and now and then also takes on a rum cask. That sharpens the selection: these are not continuous series but individual casks that the bottler considered worthwhile.
We stock four, including a Caroni from 1997, the closed distillery on Trinidad that rum collectors seek out. All at cask strength, without colouring and without chill filtration. The whisky from the same house is on the Adelphi whisky page.

Why is Caroni special?
The Caroni distillery on Trinidad closed in 2002. What is left comes from casks that were left standing at the time; nothing more is being added. That makes every Caroni bottling a finite affair, and you can see that in the price.
A name from 1826, used again
- The bottler in brief
- 1826The original Adelphi distillery in Glasgow.
- 1993The name returns as an independent bottler.
- Cask strengthAlways bottled undiluted.
- CaroniThe closed distillery on Trinidad.
The original Adelphi distillery stood in Glasgow from 1826. The name was revived in 1993 as an independent bottler; since the 2000s the company has been behind the Ardnamurchan distillery on the Scottish west coast.
The house rules are simple and apply to rum as well: one cask per bottling, at cask strength, no colouring, no chill filtering. Each cask gets its own number.
The four rums we have come from Guyana, Barbados, Belize and Trinidad, every one of them from houses that rarely bottle under their own name.
One cask, at cask strength, and nothing else done to it.
Where best to start
The Guyana Diamond and the Foursquare are the logical entry points: familiar styles, in a bottling you cannot get directly from the brands themselves.
The Caroni is a collector's bottle. Anyone not yet familiar with that style would do better to try something else from Trinidad first.
