Millstone American Oak alongside Oliva Connecticut Reserve Robusto
A Dutch single malt on American oak, alongside a mild Nicaraguan robusto. Vanilla against cream.

From the shelf
The bottle
Millstone comes from Zuidam Distillers in Baarle-Nassau. This single malt matured on American oak and is at 43 percent by volume. Zuidam is a family business that distils its spirits itself and works without artificial colourings, aromas and flavourings.
The combination
Why this works together
American oak gives whisky mainly vanilla and coconut; that is a softer side than what a sherry cask leaves behind. The Connecticut Reserve is a robusto of 127 mm under a light shade wrapper, which gives wood and cream and hardly any pepper. The two run in step. The risk is sameness, which is why it stays at 127 mm and no longer.
Beside the glass
The cigar
We do not sell cigars; we supply the whisky. These cigars go well alongside this bottle.

- Oliva Connecticut Reserve Robusto Nicaraguan robusto of 127 mm under a light shade wrapper: wood and cream next to the vanilla from American oak.
- Macanudo Café Hyde Park Mild robusto with the same low-pepper tone, slightly drier in the finish.
- AVO Classic No. 2 Dominican under a Connecticut wrapper, longer and even more restrained.
- Davidoff Millennium Blend Robusto Robusto of 127 mm with more pepper, as a counterweight to the sweet wood.
In the glass
Serving
Neat in a tulip-shaped glass, without ice. At 43 percent by volume, water is not needed. Drink in the pauses between puffs, not during them.
