We have two Williamsons from 2005 in stock, both fifteen years old: same year, same age, different cask. Such pairs show better than anything how much the cask matters, and you will rarely come across them.
There are also thirteen casks from eleven distilleries, from a Tobermory at 87 euros to a thirty-four-year-old grain whisky from 1988. If you are not sure which one you need, give us a call. That is what we are here for.

An export man who set out to choose his own casks

- 1992Brian Crook starts The Vintage Malt Whisky Company in Glasgow.

- 2005The group is taking over, among other things, the Islay Storm brand.
- nowSon Andrew Crook runs the family business.
Cooper’s Choice is the single-cask range of The Vintage Malt Whisky Company, a family business from Milngavie near Glasgow. Brian Crook started it in 1992, after twenty years in whisky as export director, for Auchentoshan and Bowmore among others. He knew the ropes, and that shows in what appeared under this name in the nineties: Ardbeg 1976, Springbank 1975, Port Ellen 1983.
The company also bottles Islay malts under its own brand names such as Finlaggan and The Ileach. The second generation is now at the helm.
In the first twenty-five years, more than ten million bottles went to over thirty countries.
Williamson, Skara Brae, Old Rhosdhu: what are those?
Replacement names. Some distilleries do not allow their name on a bottler’s bottle; it then gets a different name, or only the region. Williamson and Skara Brae are such names, and Old Rhosdhu is an old designation of Loch Lomond. We do not guess which distillery is behind it. That comes with this kind of bottle. What you do know: it is one cask, and the region is stated.

Frequently asked questions about Cooper’s Choice
How much Cooper’s Choice does ’t Bockje have in stock?
Thirteen bottlings, all immediately available, from eleven different distilleries.
Who is behind Cooper’s Choice?
The Vintage Malt Whisky Company from Milngavie near Glasgow, founded in 1992 by Brian Crook. Before that he was an export director in whisky, including for Auchentoshan and Bowmore. His son now runs the company.
What do names such as Williamson and Skara Brae mean?
Those are substitute names for distilleries that do not want their name on a bottler’s bottle. The region is stated, and it is always a single cask. We do not guess which distillery is behind it.
Which Cooper’s Choice should you try first?
The nine-year-old Tobermory is the cheapest way in. If you want to see straight away what the cask does, take the two Williamsons from 2005: same vintage, same age, different cask.
Are these bottles at cask strength?
Most do, between 51 and 57 percent. They are not chill-filtered and no colouring is added.
Does ’t Bockje also ship Cooper’s Choice abroad?
Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
