Why this works together
Chosen by type (whisky). Whisky goes with dishes that have their own character, with an aged cheese and, after the meal, with something with chocolate, caramel or nuts.
What is needed
For 4 people
With the mealVenison steak with forest fruit sauce
Ingredients
- 4 venison steaks of 150 grams
- 200 grams forest fruits
- 100 millilitres red wine
- 100 millilitres game stock
- 30 grams butter
- 1 kilo potatoes
- 400 grams Brussels sprouts
Method
- Take the steaks out of the fridge half an hour before cooking and season them with salt and pepper.
- Peel the potatoes and boil them in salted water for about 20 minutes until tender.
- Trim the Brussels sprouts and boil them for 6 to 8 minutes until just tender.
- Fry the steaks in hot butter for 2 to 3 minutes per side and leave them to rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
- Deglaze the pan with the red wine and game stock, add the forest fruits and reduce to a glossy sauce.
- Slice the meat on the diagonal and serve with the sauce, the potatoes and the Brussels sprouts.
With the cheeseComté
Ingredients
- 160 grams Comté
Method
- Take the cheese out of the fridge about an hour before serving; that brings out the flavour best.
- Only cut or break the cheese just before serving.

- sea salt
Method
- Preheat the oven to 170 °C.

A cigar with Glenfarclas 10 Years Old Single Speyside Single Maltwhisky
We have paired this cigar with Bunnahabhain 12 Years Old, another whisky from Scotland.

Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill
Cuban robusto of 124 mm, medium in strength; woody and floral, with body from the filler.
Why this works together
A robusto is thick and has relatively a lot of filler; that gives body without the pepper of the wrapper taking the lead. Against that body you set cask rather than smoke here: the sherry note runs beneath the tobacco smoke instead of against it. At 46.3 per cent ABV the whisky has enough weight not to fade.
Also good with this whisky
- Juan Lopez Selección No. 2Robusto of the same class, slightly spicier, and a calm partner for an unpeated malt.
- H. Upmann Magnum 50Thicker and longer, with Upmann's restrained house style; for a longer sitting.
- Vegas Robaina FamososCuban robusto with an earthy, mild build that leaves room for the sherry note.
We do not sell cigars; we supply the whisky.
