Why here

Five festival editions and three Icons side by side

Every year Glen Scotia releases a bottle for the Campbeltown Malts Festival, and these are usually gone after the festival. We have five in stock, from the 2026 release back to a peated PX edition, including three consecutive vintages at cask strength.

Also complete: the Icons of Campbeltown series, all three editions. And at the top end the twenty-five-year-old that was named best whisky at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2021. Not sure which one you need? Give us a call. That is what we are here for.

About the distillery

Three of the thirty

  • The distillery in five moments
  • 1832Founded as Scotia Distillery by Stewart, Galbraith & Co.
  • 1835Campbeltown has almost thirty distilleries.
  • the 20sAmerican Prohibition breaks the town; almost everything closes.
  • 1994The Loch Lomond Group takes over Glen Scotia.
  • 2021The twenty-five-year-old wins Best in Show in San Francisco.

Campbeltown lies on the Kintyre peninsula, far to the southwest, and in the nineteenth century was called the whisky capital of the world. There were almost thirty distilleries in that one small town. When American Prohibition wiped out the market, next to nothing remained: there are now three left, and Glen Scotia is one of them. The other two, Springbank and Glengyle, both belong to the same family.

Glen Scotia was founded in 1832 as Scotia Distillery. Its history is turbulent: countless owners, closures in the 1980s and 1990s, and a manager who drowned himself in 1930 after a bankruptcy in the lake from which the distillery drew its cooling water. Since 1994 the house has belonged to the Loch Lomond Group, and things have gone well since: in 2021 the distillery won two major awards in the same year.

The style is distinctly maritime: salt, oil, a light spiciness and fresh fruit. Both peated and unpeated spirit is distilled.

The distillery works with a single set of stills and produces around six hundred thousand litres a year. That is a fraction of what an average Speyside distillery makes.

What is the Campbeltown Malts Festival?

An annual festival in May at which the three distilleries of the town each release a bottle of their own. These releases are small, go into the bottle at cask strength and are usually quickly gone after the festival. We have five from Glen Scotia, including three consecutive vintages.

Frequently asked questions about Glen Scotia

How many Glen Scotia does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Twenty-eight bottles, all available immediately: the core range, five festival editions, three Icons of Campbeltown, eight seasonal releases and six from the top end.

What makes Campbeltown whisky different?

The style is distinctly maritime: salt, oil and a light spiciness. Campbeltown is the smallest whisky region of Scotland; three distilleries remain where there were once almost thirty.

Which Glen Scotia is best to try first?

The Double Cask. It shows the house style well and comes in three variants (with PX sherry, with rum and with Bordeaux), so you can compare straight away what the finishing cask does.

What are the festival editions?

Every year Glen Scotia releases a bottle for the Campbeltown Malts Festival in May. These are limited, go into the bottle at cask strength and are usually gone after the festival. We have five of them.

Is Glen Scotia peated?

Both. The core range is unpeated, but peated spirit is also distilled; that whisky appears in festival editions and single bottlings such as the ten-year-old Peated.

Does ’t Bockje also ship Glen Scotia abroad?

Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
