About the name

The peat island

  • Inchmoan in four facts
  • Inchmoanan island in Loch Lomond; the name refers to peat.
  • Peatedthe smoky side of the series.
  • 2017the twelve-year-old appears in the Island Collection.
  • Dishesthe straight neck of the still, with plates, makes the different styles possible.

The Loch Lomond distillery near Alexandria bottles its malt under names taken from the loch: Inchmurrin, Inchmoan, Inchfad, Croftengea and Old Rhosdhu. Inchmoan is the peated name and refers to an island whose name has to do with peat.

The twelve-year-old appeared in 2017 as part of the Island Collection and has been the standard bottle under this name ever since.

That a distillery can make such different styles is down to the malt stills: they do not have a bulbous neck but a straight one, with plates inside. With these, the distiller can control how heavy or how light the spirit comes out of the still.

A peat island as its name, and smoke in the glass.
